Tablets, smart speakers, and set-top boxes with Alexa equipped in grew this holiday season off the shelves, as per Amazon. The Seattle behemoth did not break out exact numbers, but disclosed that exports of Alexa-supported devices such as the Fire TV Stick 4K, Echo Dot, Echo, and Alexa Voice Remote were up a noteworthy numbers as compared to previous years. In addition to this, it claimed that Amazon users bought more Kids Edition devices by Amazon (such as the Fire Kids Edition tablets and Echo Dots Kids Edition) than before.
Shipments of Blink- and Ring-branded first-party smart home devices did not quite hit the expectations, but they, in addition to the smart home machines sector widely, were more as compared to last year, Amazon claimed. Users used their Alexa devices to switch on linked light bulbs and queue up music. Alexa played millions more songs this season than ever before across services comprising Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Tidal amongst others, Amazon claims.
On a related note, the logistics arm of the Seattle-located firm, Amazon Transportation Services, witnessed its income increase by almost 60% in FY18 as compared to previous year. This increment is consistent with the speed of development in the earlier fiscal year, as the firm carries on to supply the rising demand from marketplace business of the company.
Revenues from Amazon transportation reached Rs 1,574 Crore, in comparison to Rs 991 Crore in the last fiscal year, as per regulatory filings sourced from the media. Its other revenue, majorly from bank loans’ interest, was Rs 10 Crore. The firm had witnessed a 60% development in income in last fiscal too, from Rs 619 Crore in the FY16. According to the filings, the processes of the firm cater to a sole user in India, which is a fellow subsidiary of the holding firm, and all properties are situated in India.
